The Charity helps all with terminal illness When members of the Coord, Chris Ingram and Derek Maylor, were at the Action Mesothelioma Day for Merseyside, which was held by local asbestos activists, trade unions and campaigners one of the groups we spoke to was Marie Curie which is one of the most high-profile end of life charities in Europe. Formerly famous as a cancer charity they now offer frontline hospice care and free support on all aspects of dying and bereavement. Formed around seventy years ago they now offer care to over forty thousand terminally ill patients and support for their families during the most distressing of times. The have nine hospices throughout the UK and also provide vital care in patients homes, every day, every evening and through the night. We were surprised to learn just how much Marie Curie does in the way of not just hospice care, but also in treatment of patients with life threatening and sadly terminal illness. Speaking to Dr Laura Chapman, Medical Director who attended the Marie Curie stall (pictured right), we both got a good insight into the work she and her medical colleagues at the Charity does.

The Liverpool Marie Curie Hospice is in Speke Road, Woolton, offering in-patient en suite accommodation with adjustable beds and emergency call bells. A garden and courtyard are there to be enjoyed and are fully accessible.
